A Mary Like Me, by Andy Lee

We all need Jesus in our lives. In A Mary Like Me, we meet three Mary’s in Jesus’ life. Mary, the mother of Jesus, Mary, who sat at Jesus’ feet, and the Mary that was the first to announce His resurrection.

A Mary like Me uncovers the fear, doubt, bitterness, and faithlessness the Biblical women fought, just as we do. In Jesus’ presence, their weaknesses became strengths and their flaws were redeemed . . . just like ours. The reader learns how much they are like the Mary’s.

The first Mary talked about in the book is the sister of Martha. The following is part of their story.

“As Jesus and His disciples were on their way,
He came to a village where a woman named
Martha opened her home to Him.
She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s
feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted
by all the preparations that had to be made.
She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care
that my sister ha left me to do the work by myself?
Tell her to help me!”
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried
and upset about many things, but only one thing
is needed. Mary has chosen what is better,
and it will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:38—42

Many times I have felt like Martha. I get caught trying to prepare for company or an event and forget to take time for what really matters. Many times I have wished I could stop, listen for God’s guidance, and focus on the people around me. To be more like Mary.

Can you imagine being Mary, the mother of Jesus? How would you feel if a large angel came to you,and then said that you were going to give birth to the Son of God? That must have been overwhelming to Mary! She was only thirteen at the time. God can use you as well. Are you ready to see what he has in store for you?

Read A Mary Like Me, to see how their stories compare to your story.
