A New Year is filled with hope and promise.

What could be better than starting 2020 with a renewed commitment to grow deeper in our relationship with God?

Like a trained athlete, growing deeper means staying faithful to the fundamentals even as we strive to become mature in our walk with the Lord.

It’s easy to slack on the fundamentals—especially if we’ve been a Christian for a number of years. Whether you are a new Christian or have been walking with the Lord for most of your life, I encourage you to read this with fresh eyes.

Here 10 Things Christians Should Daily in 2020

1) Read the Bible

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,  so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

2) Pray

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Ephesians 6:18

“Pray continually.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17

3) Love God and Love Others

“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” Matthew 22:37-39

4) Serve Others

Plain and simple: Jesus served others and so should we.

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Philippians 2:3-4

5) Confess Your Sins to God

Let’s face it, we sin every day. But do we confess and repent for our sins each day?

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

6) Forgive Others as Christ Forgave You

“Be kind and tender-hearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:22

“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” Matthew 6:14

7) Be Careful of What You Say

Words are powerful. Spiritual growth means being careful with our words.

“Show integrity, dignity, and wholesome speech that is above reproach.” Titus 2:7-8

8) Be Patient

In our instant gratification society, patience is a lost virtue.

“Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.” Proverbs 14:29

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12

9) Be Humble

Being humble is a profound way to represent Christ. Humility does not mean thinking less of yourself. It means thinking of yourself less.

“Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” Matthew 23:12

10) Maintain a Good Testimony

Our testimony is through word and deed. Remember, your life might just be the only Jesus some people ever see.

“For we are taking great care to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord, but also in the eyes of men.” 2 Corinthians 8:21

“Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.” 1 Timothy 3:7

May the Lord bless you and yours in 2020!
